MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--Maryville police say a 14 year-old girl met a man on Facebook. The girl agreed to meet 25 year-old Jefferson Helton after talking to him online. She says that meeting went too far. Now Helton is facing serious sex charges.
Police say Facebook is how Jefferson Helton and the 14-year-old girl first met. They say this is how he convinced her to meet him in person. When the girl's stepfather found out, he called police to 2610 Cinema Drive which is Eagleton Middle School. He told officers his stepdaughter had been talking to Helton.
The police report says Helton met the girl at school then took her in the woods where he kissed her, touched her inappropriately and left a hickey on her neck. The girl admitted she talked to Helton on Facebook, but says he forced himself on her in the woods. Helton and a witness say the kissing was consensual and that the girl even planned to stay with Helton in a hotel.
The girl's stepfather didn't want to comment. Helton faces solicitation of a minor and sexual battery charges. He's out of jail on a $50,000 bond.
