KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Maryville College is celebrating its international diversity this week. International Education Week is underway through Friday.
The week provides an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This is the 13th year of its observance throughout the U.S. and in numerous countries.
Maryville College has long stressed international education and experiences for its students, according to Kirsten Sheppard, director of international education.
“The College believes a period of travel and study outside the United States should be a part of one's education whenever possible,” she said. “Approximately 25 percent of recent graduating classes have studied abroad either through a direct exchange program, a program through the International Student Exchange Program, a three-week January Travel-Study Program or a summer program.”
Throughout the week, photos taken by students while studying and traveling abroad will be on exhibit in the entry way of Pearsons Hall, with students having the opportunity to select the best image in the International Photo Contest.
