Knox Co. Mayor Tim Burchett
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) --- The Henley Street Bridge project has been delayed again.
It will be another year before businesses south of the river get access to a main artery. "It's disappointing, especially for South Knoxville businesses," said Monti Stanley who owns Stanley's Greenhouse.
"Everybody wants to point the finger at TDOT, and the reality is, who cares? It's not going to change one thing. They've got to fix it and it's going to be next February before any cars go across and by then what I'm afraid of is the buzzards are already circling," said Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett.
Now Mayor Burchett is looking to Nashville for help.
He has penned a letter to our local Representatives asking for tax breaks as an olive branch to those business owners who are stuck on pause while the bridge project slowly finishes.
"Certainly it will help ease the pain because we still have to pay our taxes even though sales may not be what they usually are," said Burchett.
