SOUTH KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Accused murderer Jamar Laquinn Frazier is behind bars in Knox County, hours after police picked him up in Chattanooga.

He's charged with killing Christopher Melton in south Knoxville earlier this month.

Friends say the 19 year-old Melton was turning his life around, and on his way to continuing school at Pellissippi State

That's why his death was even more shocking, a man with so much to live for is dead before 20.

Almost everyday since Chris Melton died, his mother, Trisha, has worn this t-shirt with his face on it, and a few messages.

"I'm trying to keep her comforted. Trying to make sure she has those things that she needs, like friends around her, family around her, and trying to just look out for one another," said Tonja Warren, a family friend.

His violent death shook up his friends and neighbors in Montgomery Village, the neighborhood where Melton grew up.

Melton graduated from Fulton High School last year. He was working at McDonald's, and getting ready to start classes in the fall.

But his potential won't be realized, and what's left behind are memories and countless pictures that cover the living room

"I don't wanna see anybody else go through this, doesn't make any sense," said Trisha Melton.

"We laugh with her, we cry with her, we eat with her. We make sure her children are taken care of. We just knitted ourselves together as a family just to be there for her," said Warren.

Now that someone is behind bars for Melton's death, Warren says it's time to wait for justice.

"We're looking for closure for the mother, whoever is to blame. I know what the law says, you're innocent until proven guilty. But this mother needs closure," said Warren.

Jessica Renee Foust already faces charges with being an accessory after the fact. Police say she admitted she drove Jamar Frazier away from the scene of the shooting.

Frazier will be in court September 10.
