KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Authorities are still searching for the man involved in a Tuesday evening shooting after he was picked up by someone driving a stolen rental car.

The man who picked him up, Kendrick Rodgers, told police he gave the suspect a ride in the stolen 2013 Chevrolet Camaro after meeting him at a fast-food restaurant earlier that night.

Rodgers said that's when the man pulled a gun and tried robbing him. The pair struggled over the gun, causing it to go off with the bullet flying through the car's roof. The man took off running.

While searching the car, officers reportedly found a gun on the ground by the passenger door and a bit of marijuana in the car.

Rodgers was charged with Theft of the Camaro, Possession of Schedule VI drugs, and Driving on a Revoked License. He is being held on $22,000 bond.
