KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Pawn shops have watched the price of gold rise and more people turning it in for cash. Now, there's a rise in guns being sold and pawned.
Cheryl Headrick is the General Manager at West Side Pawn and said, "We use to sell only 1 or 2 guns a week, but now we can't keep them in stock."
There's a big demand for guns, which means the value is starting to rise to an all time high.
"Guns are valuable, and it's gold right now. People are not going to get rid of their guns, unless they really have too, but we're paying big bucks to take them," said Cheryl.
Also, more people are pawning their guns for a loan but coming back within 30 days to claim that gun.
"Our return rate to pick up a pawned gun is a little bit over 98-percent. That's the highest we've seen in awhile," she said.
Of course, West Side Pawn is also seeing more first-time gun owners visiting the store, looking for the best deals around.
Cheryl said, "It's not just hunters and gun collectors anymore. It's mothers and fathers who have never owned a gun before but want to be protected, in case they need it."
West Side Pawn also has a few new hot items coming in for the ladies, a bright pink hand gun that's said to be one of the hottest items on the market.
