People upset about the rock quarry in Clinton

CLINTON, Tenn. (WVLT)--Loud noises, ground shaking and lots of dust. People are upset about a new rock quarry in Clinton.

If you live near Clinton, you see a lot of bulldozers and piles of gravel.
It's all part of the construction by the Rogers Group, Inc. They're working on the quarry entrance, the first stage of a much bigger rock blasting project angering people who live nearby. Bill Suffridge says, "This quarry is destructive to Anderson County. It's already run the wildlife off."

Bill Suffridge grew up in Anderson County. He tells me he's worried the quarry will harm nature, pollute the creek and the drive away tourism. Suffridge says, "This place is going to be a ghost town. Once they take all the rock they want out of it, they're going to pick up leave and go destroy someone else's property."

Citizens for Safety and Clean Air, a community group formed to fight the quarry proposal, appealed a decision that allowed the Rogers Group to work there. While the appeals process goes forward, the Rogers Group continues to dig on site. It's something that makes Bill mad. Bill says, "The Norris people uphold their land. It's their land. It's their children's land. We don't want Rogers Group here."

Now it's up to the courts if this construction will continue.

We called Rogers Group and asked them specific questions about the animals, pollution and dust. They told us neighbors with specific complaints or claims of property damage should contact Rogers Group directly.
