KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- It's a tasty way to help our area's less fortunate...a pie party in Fort Sanders.

The group Slow Food Knoxville held it's second annual Pie Tasting and Bake-off Party event to support another organization...Food in the Fort.

If you were able to cook up a pie with local ingredients it was the perfect chance to put your skills to the test...a judged contest.

Meanwhile, all proceeds went to help those struggling to get a healthy meal.

Casey Self with Slow Food Knoxville says, "We're all very concerned about you know, sustainable practices and being able to get your food sustainably. And also food justice."

Thursday night's event also helps a program call Dish on a Dime...teaching the less fortunate how to budget better and eat healthier meals. This takes place during a workshop at Redeeming Hope Ministries, on Highland Avenue, every other Wednesday.
