PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Pigeon Forge is moving forward with building a new multimillion dollar events center, and on Wednesday signed a piece of steel that will be the final piece of structural steel for the building.

Mayor David Wear, along with city leaders and Susan Whittaker the Tennessee Tourism Commissioner, signed the beam that is a milestone for the $45 million project. Also on hand, several business leaders and the entire board of the National Quartet Convention.

The National Quartet Convention just announced it will move to the new LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge when it opens in September of next year.

"We're here honoring our contractor and all the subs that have done work on this beautiful building. It's a work in progress as you can see, but we've come along way in a short amount of time and we're real excited about it," said Mayor David Wear.

The center is currently on schedule and under budget.
