GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Gatlinburg Police have charged a man with child abuse after he was found in a parking lot with a child in the backseat.
According to arrest warrants, officers were called to the Food City in Gatlinburg for possible drug activity. Officers reported finding Jonathan Fitzgerald with a white plastic spoon with drug residue and a needle with clear liquid between the seat.
Officers say a 6 month old was in the back seat behind the passenger.
The warrant says, "the defendant and his spouse were intending on consuming the illegal substance until the officer walked up on them."
Fitzgerald faces charges of Child Abuse, Possession of Drugs, and Drug Paraphernalia. He was released from the Sevier County Jail on $10,000 bond. He's expected in court on April 10th.
