PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Pigeon Forge Police are getting a new piece of equipment to help fight crime.

Motorcycle officers in the town are getting body cameras. Right now the officers don't have cameras, unlike patrol car officers do.

"If they answer a call, go into a house or a building, Then the offers are able to then video tape inside," said Chief Jack Baldwin. "It also serves a purpose of "he said she said," so you know if you're dealing with a complaint it's always good to go back and look at the video."

Baldwdin says not only will he be able to see what officers are doing during a traffic stop, the video could also be used in court. He believes the video cameras will be extremely helpful during busy times.

Pigeon Forge City commission has agreed to buy 8 of the cameras at just over $900 a piece. The cameras are expected to arrive in a few weeks.

Business owners in Pigeon Forge hope it will help fight crime by solving break-ins and detour shoplifters.

"I think it's good so we'll have proof of what happened. I think that's great. That way we'll get proof of what happened behind the scenes," said Amber Brown at Outback Leather in Pigeon Forge.

"The Rod Runs especially because there's so much traffic in town, and to know that you have that extra protection," said Mary Miller of Outback Leather in Pigeon Forge.
