Prescribed burn operations continue

CADES COVE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Prescribed burn operations in Cades Cove have been completed by the Fire Management personnel at Great Smoky Mountains National Park.More are planned for the weekend.

70 acres of meadows in the cove were burned over the week. Plans called for more burn operations on Friday near the Maples Branch area in Cades Cove.

The park hopes to conduct prescribed burns in the Park near Wears Valley on Sunday, November 11th. Prescribed burn operations are expected to take 2 days. During the burn operations, Wear Cove Gap Road from the Metcalf Bottoms bridge to the Park boundary at Wear Cove Gap will be closed.

Access through Wear Cove Gap should re-open early Sunday evening. A lighted message board will be posted in Wears Valley warning motorists of the closure.
