KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- R.E.I, short for Recreational Equipment Incorporated, will open its first Knoxville location in the Papermill Plaza on October 24.
The Seattle-based retailer offers equipment and clothing for most outdoor adventures.
The 23,500 square-foot store will also have a bike shop complete with expert assembly and repair services.
REI is the nation’s largest consumer cooperative with 5.1 million active members. There are currently nearly 4,000 members in the Knoxville area.
While anyone may shop with the retailer, REI members pay a one-time $20 fee and receive a share in profits through an annual member refund.
Knoxville is the co-op’s second location in Tennessee, joining a store in Brentwood.
Whole Foods and Ulta are also planning to open their doors soon in the Papermill Plaza.
