KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- According to Booko.com, a recent online survey found that 62% of people are planning to re-gift this year; will you?
It might sound like a good idea when you get a present that you really don't want but know someone else would love it. We talked to the owner of The Etiquette Factory, Monica Irvine to find out the if we really should re-gift.
"Re-gifting is a big etiquette no no. We just can't do it. But returning or exchanging the gift is okay." said Monica
Even if you get something that you really don't want, Monica explains it's the thought that counts.
"It's a tough economy and if you get a gift then you know someone was thinking about you and bought you something they thought you'd like. If you don't want it, put it aside and keep it for at least a year." Monica said
But if you can't help yourself and you feel the need to re-gift; avoid the biggest mistake that people make.
"Don't re-gift something to someone who the giver and the person you give it to know each other. You don't want the giver to find out you really didn't want the present." said Monica
