KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Salvation Army reached a new record during its Red Kettle Campaign, raising $148.7 million through bell ringers nationwide.
The campaign started around Thanksgiving.
Locally, Pilot stores helped collect money for the Salvation Army by selling paper red kettles during the campaign.
On Wednesday, Pilot presented a check for $42,500 to Salvation Army officials at the Pilot on Merchants Drive.
Keith Maner, Pilot Flying J Division Marketing Manager, said, "It was easy to motivate our people to ask for these donations. They know the money goes right back into the area, and that's motivating for everybody."
Last year Pilot raised $35,000 for the Salvation Army.
