It's been 58 years in the making, a reunion between a Vonore man and a baby he found in the woods. This weekend, the two met for the very first time.
He spent years trying to locate that baby girl he found naked in the woods.
Sunday cameras were rolling as David Hickman was reunited with Ellen Suey nearly 60 years later.
This is how David Hickman remembers Ellen. She was a newborn just tossed in a field like trash. David Hickman says, "She was wrapped in a towel. She was soak and wet. Her lips were blue, and she was bleeding on the left side."
A California family adopted her several months after she was found, but before she left town, nurses took Ellen to Hickman's school so he could say goodbye. He spent decades after that trying to track her down and this Christmas he finally found her. Then Sunday, he saw her for the first time since that time he said goodbye at his high school. David Hickman says, "This is a miracle. This is a miracle."
Ellen always wanted to meet the man who found her. She knew she was adopted but only found out she was abandoned and left for dead when she was 27 years old. The meeting was something she never thought would happen. Ellen Suey says, "I call him my angel here on earth. If it hadn't been for Dave, I wouldn't be here."
And for them both an emotional reunion. Suey says, "I really believe I was put there to die, but by the grace of God, Dave came by and whoo hoo we're here today."
David Hickman says, "This was a tragic beginning. Someone trying to kill a baby. But it ended up in a fairytale."
David says he'll never forget the day he found Ellen. He sees the images of that baby in the woods every day of his life.
Hickman says they'll continue to talk on the phone and visit one another and that emily will always be a part of his family.
