PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Hundreds of construction crews are working to get Dollywood's Splash Country's newest attraction up and running.
RiverRush, a 4 story water coaster, is on schedule to open in May at Splash Country. The track is now 95% complete on Tennessee's first water coaster.
"We were really challenged to find the terrain large enough to fit something like this in here," said Brian Dudash, Dollywood's Director of Construction as he explains about the design of the ride, which you can see from Veteran's Boulevard.
This $6 million attraction is the newest at Splash Country and the largest expansion in the water park's history. General Manager Mike Brown says this will take the water park to an all new level.
"It's our biggest expansion ever that we've put in, in terms of scope and financial since the park opened," said Brown. "Different from the other rides in the park in that it will actually propel you uphill."
RiverRush relies on cutting-edge technology to create a thrilling experience through 4 drops on the 1,176 foot track. Toboggan-style rafts will carry 4 people through the ride, while a hydromagnetic technology pulls guest up and down through the water.
Dollywood has hired 100 people since August to work on construction of the new attraction. The park expects to go through test runs in April.
