KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A south Knoxville man is behind bars after he allegedly shot his neighbor during an argument Wednesday afternoon, according to the Knox Co. Sheriff's Office. Fifty-four year-old Darrell Lewelling is charged with Aggravated Assault.
Witnesses said Lewelling was in an "irate state" when he showed up at Brad Whaley's home, 1208 Bays Mountain Road, around 4:30 p.m. Whaley managed to calm Lewelling down and walked him back to to his home.
That's when, witnesses say, Lewelling started shoving Whaley. He then went into his mobile home and grabbed a gun. When he returned, he shot Whaley. Police said they aren't sure yet how many rounds were fired.
Whaley, 26, was rushed to U.T. Medical Center. Police have not updated his condition.
