KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Knox County school board officials voted to approve a consolidated annual review of Superintendent Jim McIntyre at a special meeting Monday night.
Overall, the review was favorable. Board members applauded Dr. McIntyre on the exceptional growth and change the district has seen over the past year.
The evaluation also called for improvement. The board recommended that the superintendent focus on community outreach. Some members cited that communication from the central office isn't always effective as it trickles down to the schools, parents, and teachers.
The board also voted to defer approving a bid for construction on Carter Middle School's gymnasium. Several members supported a motion to wait on the vote until the superintendent releases the full amount of unexpected revenues from the last fiscal year.
A few board members voiced concern on deferring the construction, but it was made clear students will be able to use their old gym until the new one is complete.
That vote was deferred until September 17.
