KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A dozen female basketball players from the west African country of Senegal are in Knoxville this week to learn about sports in the United States and how it relates to women and girls.
The visit from the Senegalese basketball team and their coaches runs through Friday at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and is part of the Empowering Women and Girls through Sports initiative, a global effort established by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The delegation will participate in a curriculum developed by University of Tennessee professors, and they will meet with members of the UT athletics program, the Lady Vols basketball team and UT faculty.
