Shorter lines for last-minute shoppers

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Shoppers looking for last minute gifts and deals don't seem to be in the spirit of spending as much as previous years.

Over at West Town Mall in Knoxville, there was a steady stream traffic giving the feel of the holiday shopping season.

But retailers have seen a drop in last minute buys, a period that makes up almost half of the money they'll make this season.

That's led to some businesses offering better deals and staying open later.

Plus, there will always be some folks hitting the malls no matter what.

"We've got everybody else's. We've left one out and couldn't find any thing else so we're trying again," said Jordan and Sandra Jones.

"I thought I'd like to find a shirt for my son.He likes certain kind of shirts so I''m looking for a shirt for him. So I thought well I'll pick up a few things for my self as well," said Shoshanah, a shopper.

Experts say uncertainty about a deal on the "Fiscal Cliff," the shooting in Newtown and Superstorm Sandy's aftermath have made shop shoppers a bit hesitant to spend.
