KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Small businesses got together on Sunday in a joint effort to get people to spent money locally.

16 small businesses got together at the old Fountainhead College of Technology in a joint effort to promoted for each other.

Shop Smart with Small Business has done the event before, but this time they hope for more people to come in. They say the money spent with them all stays local and helps them support other local businesses.

"It's hard for a small business to afford the major advertising. So by getting together and helping each other through social networking, friends and family, we let people know we're here think of us first when you need something," said Jennifer Alexander, who worked to put the event together.

The businesses were set up to tell and show people about the products they offer. They're also looking for other small businesses to join the group.
