State files injunction against HRC Medical over Amor Vie treatments

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The state has gotten a temporary restraining order against certain practices at HRC Medical Centers, Inc., connected to a "Bio-identical" Hormone Replacement Therapy the centers offer.

The Attorney General told HRC to stop certain claims and practices related to the Amor Vie treatment. Monday, the AG's Office filed a suit against the company for allegedly making unsubstantiated health claims and failing to advise consumers about possible risks and negative side effects associated with Amor Vie. In the lawsuit, the state asked the Davidson County Circuit Court for a temporary restraining order, a temporary injunction, a receiver appointment over the corporation, and for the corporation to be dissolved.

Based on its investigation, the state says HRC vioalted the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act by making a series of false and unsubstantiated claims about the benefits, safety and side effects of the treatment. The lawsuit also says HRC withheld important information from patients about the potential for serious health risks and side effects that could result from the therapy.

HRC's owner and officer, Don Hale, former owner and officer, Dan Hale, and HRC Management Midwest, LLC, which owns an HRC clinic in Memphis, are all named in the lawsuit. The Tennessee-based company sells the Amor Vie BHRT, claiming in advertisements that it is a "safe alternative" to traditional hormone replacement therapy. The company operates clinics in Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville.

“We are grateful to the court for this action as this concerns the safety and health of many Tennesseans,” Attorney General Cooper said. “We urge Tennesseans who may have used HRC Medical’s BHRT to contact their personal health care providers about any possible adverse effects that may be associated with BHRT.”

HRC has publicly denied the allegations in the past. A temporary injunction hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Friday, October 19.

Patients who visited an HRC clinic should contact 615-741-1671 to report any side effects or adverse health impacts from any BHRT Amor Vie treatment they received at the clinic.
