Underwood Miles Charged in Sept. 7 Cumberland Strip shooting

KNOXVILLE, TENN (WVLT) We're learning more about a shooting on the strip early Saturday morning.

Police arrested 39-year-old Underwood Miles in connection to the incident, but another suspect is still on the run.

Local 8 News spoke to UT students who are now a bit concerned for their safety.

"I don't think it's that safe, because you have people partying and stuff, when there's alcohol there's probably drugs somewhere," says Christine, a student at UT.

Police say shots rang out in the parking lot behind 1937 Cumberland Ave just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

Businesses in the area say this hasn't kept people away from the strip.

Chris Kolup works at Goal Post Tavern, he says they've been busier than ever, " We all did pretty good yesterday for the game, everything kind of rolls on."

He says it's not unusual for an occasional fight to break out when alcohol is involved, but a shooting surprises him.

Many students say they won't stop going to this area, but will be more aware.

"You should have a designated person to be with you all the time," says Christine, "and with the recent events I think there should be more police."

Many people are being questioned regarding the case.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 865-215-7212.
