Suspect attempts to rob Knoxville Food City

KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- According to the Knoxville Police Department, one person attempted to rob a Knoxville grocery store on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the Food City on the 1900 block of Western Avenue.

The suspect approached a Food City employee acting like he had a weapon. He forced her to try to open the safe but she could not because it was on a time lock.

The suspect successfully took some money from the store, but as he left, two Food City employees detained him.

Suspect in now in KPD custody.
