KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Thieves trying to save face after they were caught on camera.

The burglary started out with a Craigslist ad.

The homeowner wanted to get rid of some stuff. So he posted an ad, and left the items on the curb, free for anyone who wants them.

It seemed pretty generous, but a few men wanted more.

Ignoring the warning about a security camera in the ad, these three guys not only took what they wanted off the curb, they went inside for more. The homeowner says they broke into the house, and stole hundreds of dollars with of items.

The victim then posted this video on Youtube, and it got a lot of attention.

Just a few days ago, the people caught on camera contacted the homeowner, and apologized. They promised to return all of his stolen stuff.

The homeowner didn't want to go on camera today. But he told me that the suspects have giving back some of the stolen goods.

He says by the end of the week, everything should be returned with restitution.

At this point, he says he will pursue charges, and plans to talk to a detective next week
