Suspicious package found, detonated at Farragut post office

FARRAGUT, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knox Co. Sheriff's Office said a suspicious package spotted on top of a mailbox outside the post office in Farragut on Tuesday was harmless.

The package was spotted by a the Postal Inspection Service, which alerted the Knox Co. Sheriff's Office. Authorities said a remote scan of the box did not reveal anything, so they "remotely opened" it.

After investigating, the bomb squad determined it wasn't a threat.

Officials did note they found a return address on the package, so they plan on contacting the return addressee.
