KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT)-- Tennessee Highway Patrol is getting a different perspective on texting and driving.
Troopers are stepping up patrols on distracted drivers.
Tuesday and Wednesday THP will be patrolling in a semi- truck.
This gives them a better vantage point to catch people texting while behind the wheel.
They're able to see down inside of cars so they can also catch drivers not wearing their seat belts.
Sgt. Randall Martin, says they want people to pay attention to the roads.
"Put the cell phone down, two hands on the wheel, two eyes on the road, it's really easy. I don't know many things that are so important that you have to take that call right then," he says.
The semi can pull you over, but it most likely won't. When they see someone breaking the law from above they radio their counterparts closer to the ground in cruisers.
