Weather Alert: Strong to severe storms are expected tonight
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP/WVLT) -- Officials in a Middle Tennessee county are considering a proposal to put resource officers in every school.
Rutherford County Commissioner Robert Peay says he thinks the measure would make teachers feel safer, and he will push for it.
The Daily News Journal reports the comments last week came shortly after Sheriff Robert Arnold pushed for adding a total of 13 resource officers, one for each elementary school in the county and two for a high school that will open in the fall.
Although Arnold favored adding 11 officers during the current school year, commissioners told him plan on adding them at the beginning of the next school year in August.
The call for more officers comes on the heels of a mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.
