Tennessee man dies at the Naval Submarine School in Connecticut

GROTON, Conn. (WVLT)--The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating the death of 25-year-old Seaman Apprentice Joshua Allen Woods of Memphis, Tenn.

The Navy said Woods his roommate found him unresponsive in his bed at their barracks room Saturday morning. The roommate notified school supervisors and Woods went a New London hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Woods' funeral was Monday in Tennessee, where he was buried with military honors at the Western Tennessee State Veterans' Cemetery.

The Navy said Woods began the basic enlisted submarine course in May 2012 and graduated in January. He was awaiting his new assignment.
