Tornado Confirmed In Franklin

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Forecasters confirmed a tornado in Franklin.

The National Weather Service office in Nashville examined damage after the Thursday evening storm and determined a tornado struck a ball field and a mobile home park in Franklin, about 15 miles south of Nashville.

NWS forecaster Mark Rose said Friday the strength of the tornado was still being determined, but said it would be a high-end EF-0 or a low EF-1. Several cars were flipped over at Jim Warren Park where children had been playing baseball until shortly before the storm struck. A mother and her young daughter were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained when a Jeep was turned over.

A storm also struck Gatlinburg, dropping large hail that shattered car windshields.
