UPDATE: Madisonville family killed in McMinn Co. wreck

MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released the names of the two adults killed in a fatal car crash Friday afternoon in McMinn County.

According to the THP Fatality Report, the driver was Christan C. Wagner, 20 of Madisonville. Wagner was also pregnant at the time of the crash, and her unborn fetus has also died. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Michael L. Shell, 25 of Madisonville was in the passenger seat of the car. He was also not wearing a seatbelt.

A 1 year-old boy was sitting behind Wagner and a 2 year-old boy was sitting behind Shell. Both children were also pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The THP report indicates both were in child seats, but the child seats were not properly secured and just resting on the back seat.

The report indicates Wagner was driving east on TN-68 around 1:15 p.m. when she crossed the center line in her Dodge Neon and struck a Walmart big rig head on. The tractor trailer then slammed into a ridge and burst into flames. Its driver, a 33 year old man from London, Kentucky made it out with only minor injuries.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.

MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A family of four including a mother-to-be has was killed in a Friday afternoon car wreck.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirms the crash happened around 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of TN-68 and County Road 292.

"This is probably one of the worst that I've been involved in 15 years with the Tennessee Highway Patrol," said Lt. Daniel Ruskey from THP.

Investigators say the four victims were in a Dodge Neon going east on CR-292 when they collided with a west bound Wal-Mart big rig. The tractor trailer then slammed into the side of a ridge where it burst into flames. Its driver made it out with only minor injuries.

THP said everyone in the Neon was related. All four died on the scene.

"It's sad as a fellow human being to see anyone lose their life in this way,” said Lt. Ruskey. “You come out and you try to prevent these types of things, but they continue to happen.”

The names and ages of the victim’s have not been released, though the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office confirms the four people inside the Neon were a pregnant woman, another adult and two young children.

THP’s Critical Response Investigation Team was on still on the scene late Friday evening trying to figure out exactly what happened.

MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Tennessee Highway Patrol is working a deadly tractor trailer crash in McMinn county.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the accident occurred on Highway 68 and County Road 292, near the Meigs County line in Southern McMinn County.

The accident was reported at 1:30 this afternoon.

THP confirms four people were killed, including a pregnant woman and two young children.

All westbound and eastbound traffic is affected, with all lanes blocked.

Traffic is being diverted to alternate routes.

TDOT estimates the wreck will be cleared by 7:00 tonight.
