Trolley crash not primary cause of rider's death

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A medical examiner has concluded a rollover crash involving a Gatlinburg tourist trolley contributed to the death of a Michigan woman, but was not the primary cause.

Eunice Spencer of Fowlerville, Mich., died Sept. 14 -- 11 days after the crash on Labor Day.

The 66-year-old Spencer told The Mountain Press during a telephone interview two days before her death that she and a friend were riding to the Glades Road arts and crafts community when the crash occurred.

Spencer was taken to University of Tennessee Hospital with broken ribs and other injuries.

The final autopsy report said Spencer died of cardiovascular disease and that other conditions contributed to her death -- among them blunt force chest trauma, asthma, emphysema and obesity.
