Local Baptist church supports Boy Scouts

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- One local church opens its doors to any Boy Scout Troop displaced by a Southern Baptist Church.

Rev. Drew Prince of West Hills Baptist Church in Knoxville delivered the message after the Southern Baptist Convention urged followers to sever its ties with the Boy Scouts of America.

"When you go into ministry you wonder what you might have to take a stand on, and I never thought taking a stand in support of the Boy Scouts is what I'd need to do," said Prince.

SBC approved a resolution Wednesday to condemn the Boy Scouts of America's recent decision to allow openly gay boys to become Scouts.

While some churches have refused to allow the Scouts into their church, Rev. Price said it's about unconditional love.

"I really think the focus should be on the good work they do and the upbringing of great citizens in the community," Prince said.
