MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (Submitted) — Lynn Mefford, director of nursing for The Heritage Center, received Life Care Centers of America’s 2007 Mary Denton service award on Monday, April 21.
The Mary Denton Award honors an individual who has provided the highest level of caring service to the residents of Life Care’s skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. It is named for a former resident who was committed to welcoming new fellow residents and making them feel at home.
Mefford received the award during Life Care’s Directors of Nursing Meeting at Life Care’s corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Tenn.
“Lynn is a quintessential example of leadership in her role as the director of nursing,” said Nancy Shoemaker, director of human resources at The Heritage Center. “She is recognized as an icon at our facility and within Life Care Centers of America as a whole.”
Mefford has served as director of nursing at the facility for 20 years. During the awards ceremony, she was praised for her loving care of the residents; her encouragement of staff development; her ability to hire good nurses who stay with the facility for years; her ability to communicate well with fellow nurses, residents and their families; and her positive and supportive manner toward all.
Under Mefford’s leadership, state and Joint Commission survey scores have remained high. Life Care surveys of the building for customer and associate satisfaction have remained some of the highest in the company.
“The Mary Denton Award is the epitome of finally coming into your own realm of service,” said Mefford. “I just feel very honored and very blessed to do what I’ve been able to do.”
Life Care also honored seven divisional Directors of Nursing of the Year and a company-wide Director of Nursing of the Year.
“Our directors of nursing ‘Walk the Talk with Love’ every day,” said Cathy Murray, Life Care’s chief operating officer. “We appreciate their leadership in our facilities, not only by their words, but by their caring and concerned actions for our residents, families and associates. They are truly an inspiration to all.”
“The directors of nursing are the guardians of positive outcomes for our residents,” added Sharon Coleman, Life Care’s vice president of clinical systems. “The directors receiving these great honors were chosen because of their proven leadership, endurance, competence and overall ability.”
