Knoxville (WVLT) - Twenty states are now blaming tainted spinach for outbreaks of E. coli.
This strain of E. coli is particularly toxic.
And the FDA has linked it to spinach, the freshly bagged kind found on most supermarket shelves.
If you have bagged spinach in your refrigerator, throw it out.
Even washing won't get rid of this powerful and dangerous strain, because the bacteria attach too tightly.
Federal health officials are working to find the source of the multi-state outbreak.
One person has died and nearly one hundred others sickened in the outbreak.
