Tax credit to stay healthy

A Maryland lawmaker is proposing a 500-dollar tax credit to encourage people to stay healthy.

But even he admits it would be tough to get the bill passed since it would reduce state revenue during these tough economic times.

The advocates for the bill include gyms, health-related non-profits and insurers. Their philosophy is wellness is worth it.

A Coppin State University study shows that obesity costs 2.7 billion dollars in health care and one billion dollars in lost productivity.
