KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An East Tennessee charity is kicking off an event to help "tackle" Alzheimer's.

The Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Tennessee held their annual Memory Walk Kickoff event at the Bearden Banquet Hall on Wednesday. Captains of each Memory Walk team gathered to get tips on raising funds, as well as some inspiration from people affected by Alzheimer's.

Members of the association are hoping to "tackle" Alzheimer's Disease this year. The football theme is a tribute to the campaign's Honorary Chairpersons, former University of Tennessee Head Football Coach Phillip Fulmer, and his wife Vicki.

"My family's been affected by Alzheimer's itself, and thousands and millions of people around Tennessee and around the country are affected by a very dreadful disease actually," says Phillip Fulmer. "So I'm pleased to be involved and asked to be a part of it again."

The Knoxville Regional Memory Walk will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009. For more information, or to register, please call 865-544-6288 or e-mail kay.watson@alz.org. You can also visit the Eastern Tennessee Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association's website by clicking the links below.
