Knoxville (WVLT) - Medic Regional Blood Center is making an emergency appeal to you.
Representatives say each day they are only collecting enough blood to fulfill that day's need.
Medic says in order to meet the demand of 28 area hospitals, they need to collect 350 pints of blood a day, but right now they're only collecting about 225.
For example, they have less than 32 pints of O+ in inventory, and the need is 500 pints.
"And unfortunately, sometimes elective surgeries get cancelled. We are not at that point right now, and we are fulfilling hospital orders this week, but we are certainly running the risk of not being able to do that by week's end," says Christi Fightmaster from Medic Regional Blood Center.
Medic needs O+, O- and A+ blood types.
You can visit their headquarters at the corner of Western and Ailor Avenue.
