Knoxville, Tenn (WVLT) - You can take a big step toward quitting smoking today, during the 36th annual "Great American Smokeout."

The event is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and challenges people to stop using tobacco for 24-hours. The event also raises awareness of the many effective ways to quit for good.

In our area, there will be several information booths set up.

The booths will be at these locations:

· East Tennessee Children's Hospital, Cafeteria

· The University of Tennessee Medical Center, Main Lobby

· Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Main Lobby

· Tennova Healthcare at the Main and North locations

Tennessee smokers can get their plan to quit in place now with the help of the Tennessee Tobacco QuitLine. That number is 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
