KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Pink is the color of the month to support the fight against breast cancer and local firefighters are joining the fight.

Friday they showed off their newest uniforms for the month, a pink t-shirt. It's not your typical fire department uniform but this month things are a bit different across the country.

Kevin Faddis, President of the Firefighters Association told us, "Fire departments across the nation wear pink to show support and since we all know people that have dealt with breast cancer; we thought the t-shirts would show the community our support."

Captain Frank Mallory is just one of the many firefighters wearing pink proudly. His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer at 28 years old just months after she gave birth to their second child.

"It was a difficult time for us but I was able to get through it with the support of my church family and the fire department." Mallory said.

More than 350 firefighters will wear the pink t-shirts through the end of the month and they are even on sale for the public.

The shirts are $12.00 and ALL the proceeds go towards breast cancer research. They are on sale from Friday October 14th to Sunday October 16th.

If you want a shirt; log onto facebook and "like" the Knoxville Firefighters Association page. Remember to leave your number for someone to contact you.

Its great to see the Knoxville Fire Department Supporting a great cause. I only wish there were more places available to buy the shirts around town. I believe many retailers would be happy to sell them for KFDA.
