KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The fight to end breast cancer is getting even stronger here in Knoxville.
Tuesday was the kickoff breakfast for "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer," a noncompetitive, family-friendly, 5K walk that will bring the community together to raise funds to support the American Cancer Society's mission to beat the disease.
The 2011 Making Strides walk is October 2 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum beginning at 2:00 p.m.
This is the first time the event will take place in Knoxville, but Making Strides has been in existence nationwide since 1993. Since then, nearly seven million walkers have raised more than $400 million to fight breast cancer. Last year alone, nearly 800,000 people raised $60 million nationwide.
Cancer survivors, doctors and sponsors spoke at the event. Volunteer TV's Allison Kropff was one of the emcees.
