Repeal our unfunded health law? No way, says GOP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republicans are trying to repeal President Barack Obama's health overhaul, but there's another massive health care program with unfunded future costs of more than $7 trillion.

That's the Medicare prescription drug benefit and it was created by Republicans.

People in that program pay only one-fourth of the cost. The rest comes from the government's general fund, adding to the deficit.

But when the GOP presidential candidates were asked at their latest debate if they'd repeal the drug program, they said no way.

Deficit hawks say that's inconsistent, particularly because Obama made an effort to pay for his plan with Medicare cuts and tax increases.
