KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Hundreds will gather at World's Fair Park on Saturday for the Tour de Cure. It's a family event to raise awareness and money for diabetes.
Ben Bass from the American Diabetes Association spends the day marking miles and miles of Greenways for the Tour de Cure.
"It's an event to bring people together who have diabetes or want to help raise money to find a cure." says Bass
About 350 cyclist have signed up and over 100 volunteers are donating their time.
But this event is different from others because of the cyclist that participate. They call themselves the "Red Riders" , they are people who are battling diabetes and riding to support the fight.
"We do a special jersey for anyone with diabetes. It;s a way that we can make them feel like a V.I.P to celebrate their accomplishments of battling with the disease." says Bass
