NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A professor of medicine at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville has been named to a melanoma research "dream team."
According to a news release from the school, Jeffrey Sosman will work to write genomic-driven clinical trials and will lead one of several research sites that will enroll melanoma patients in such trials.
The trials are designed to identify molecular mutations that are unique to each patient's tumor and match the molecular characteristics to specific investigational drugs targeting these abnormalities.
Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer.
The "dream team" is supported by the organization Stand Up to Cancer and the Melanoma Research Alliance.
