STATE DEPARTMENT (AP) -- President Bush is calling on the world's worst polluters to do something about global warming. But he says each nation needs to decide for itself what to do.
Speaking at a White House-sponsored conference on climate change, Bush says major polluters, including the U.S., share a "common responsibility" to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He says that needs to be done while keeping the economies of those nations growing.
Bush proposed creating an international fund to finance research into green technologies and other voluntary efforts to tackle global warming. He says a goal for emission reductions should be finalized next summer.
Representatives of 16 countries have been attending the two days of talks, including big producers from the developing world like China and India.
