ATLANTA (AP) -- Genarlow Wilson says he was a boy when he went to prison but he's emerged as a man.
Wilson appeared on NBC's "Today" show this morning to talk about his release after serving two years behind bars.
Wilson was sentenced to 10 years for having consensual oral sex with a 15 year-old girl when was 17. But he was freed Friday, hours after the Georgia Supreme Court ruled in a 4-3 vote that his 10-year sentence amounted to "cruel and unusual punishment."
Now 21, Wilson tells NBC his experience has taught him valuable life lessons and that he plans to make up for lost time. He'd like to go to college and pursue a degree in either sociology or business.
Yesterday, after appearing before the congregation of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Wilson said "it feels real good to be free."
