NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) -- A nine-year-old New Jersey boy faces 18-months probation in the beating death of a toddler.
The boy, known only as "J.L.," was found guilty of the juvenile equivalent of manslaughter. He's been ordered to continue the counseling and therapy while serving probation.
Middlesex County prosecutors wanted him to get the maximum of three years confinement at a juvenile facility.
The 11-month-old died of head injuries after being kicked at a day care facility. The woman who ran it was not in the room when the baby was kicked. She pleaded not guilty to child endangerment. And the facility was shut down.
It is still not clear what prompted the attack.
