MIAMI (WVLT/AP) -- The American Airlines flight that was diverted to Miami International Airport due to a landing gear problem has landed safely.
Officials say the American Airlines passenger jet was carrying about 130 people to Chicago.
Pilots of the MD-80 jet spent more than an hour burning off fuel as they prepared to land.
The emergency landing was flawless.
Passengers have been taken to the gate and will board a new plane for Chicago.
MIAMI (CBS) -- American Airlines Flight 862 is preparing to land at Miami International Airport with a nose gear problem.
The pilots of the jet have radioed the control tour indicating that "nose gear is not fully extending".
The plane, an MD-80 took off from West Palm Beach en route to Chicago's O'Hare, when the pilots detected the problem.
It is now in a circling pattern to burn off fuel.
At this point, there is no time set for landing.
