2012 National Spelling Bee kicks off

NATIONAL HARBOR,Md(WVLT)-- The competition kicked off on Tuesday with a computer test of words in order to narrow down the field from over 200 to 50.

Many are hoping six year old Lori Anne Madison, the youngest ever to compete in the field will also advance on.

There are five from Tennessee in the competition including Nicole Frische from Soddy-Daisy, Claire Layne from Buchanon.

Hannah Jackson from Kingsport, Valery Nguyen-Au from Memphis, and Grace Park from Nashville.

The Bee really gets underway Wednesday and runs through Thursday.
